To fight versus alimentary frauds and the resistance towards antibiotics; to reduce the dependence from biocides ands pesticides; to implement a strategy for a sustainable food production “ from the field to the table”. These are the guidelines given from the President of the European Commission, Ursula Vond der Leyen to the designated Health Commissioner, Stella Kyriakides from Cyprus. It is one of the vastest portfolios of the Commission: it covers human health, plants and animals health, crossing from pesticides to agriculture biotechnologies, from food labels to “new foods” to animal well-being. Demographic and environmental changes, that will always be more a focus point of the European societies, can be challenged only through “ one health” approach, putting good health and food quality under the same political umbrella. Its priorities include the new strategy, “ from the field to the table” to improve alimentary safety, the action against the antimicrobic resistance and to assure a constant flow of medicines with accessible prices for consumers. What can we do then to reduce the impact of biocides and to stimulate the adoption of low risk alternatives? To use biological products, to improve the infrastructural quality of the buildings, to make a sensible use of the biocides, preferring, when possible, to adopt non chemicals options ( for example, physical, mechanical and biological): To develop monitoring systems always more efficient therefore to act only when really needed. When you intervene within sensible structures, such as those concerning the preparation of food, the pest control operators must be more informed and trained in their critical capability to analyse and in observing the places that can become hotbed for infections, instead of acting afterwards. This Conference on Disinfestation wants to trace a point on the modern management of infectants within the urban and alimentary environments, focusing in particular on the criticalities that sometimes make it a paradox to realize control plans and the sudden activation of emergencies situations.
